Spring of Light Ministries seeks to address the challenge of bridging faith and culture through our Creative Arts Center. In the current postmodern milieu, the Christian church often fades behind the relativistic spiritualities of popular culture. Spring of Light seeks believes that Christianity has a relevant message for this new cultural paradigm.
Instead of simply adapting the latest popular trend to a Christian context, we look back to the New Testament writers and the Early Church Fathers for insight. They also faced the challenge of proclaiming the gospel in a pluralistic culture. One ancient tool that can help us understand the common ground for faith and culture is the harmony of the good, the true, and the beautiful.
These three ideas form a symphonic tension that brings balance to our pursuits. If faith has only the good and the true, it may lack the experiential dimension and easily slip into dogmatic legalism. If art has only the beautiful and the good, it loses it's connection with transcendence, slips into relativism, and can easily become another short-lived trend.
The Spring of Light Creative Arts Center seeks to address these creative tensions in the art world by exploring and supporting the various aspects of the arts such as film, theater, music, writing, and painting.
